Yup after a spring snowstorm and unseasonably low temperatures I didn't let the wind warning keep me indoors today. In fact today was a big workout day all around, I am happy but tired.
I hit the iron again today for the first time in almost two weeks. Mixed it up a bit and did supersets of Chest, Bicep, Abs, Tricep, & Back...........two sets no resting.......was a nice change and my HR was up around 130 for most of it. I need to keep weights involved or there will be muscle loss (or so tells me my Guru Jason www.fitmetabolism.com).
It was warmish tonight and the boys wanted to bike to piano (note to self next time have supper ready earlier......sheesh its like herding cats) so I took the bike off the trainer installed the trailer hitch tossed Piper in the back and away we went. We got a kilometer down the trail and Alex we screaming at me to slow down........seems I forgot what a huge difference the road bike has in speed over my mountain bike, even with Piper attached. So with renewed understanding of kid speed in hand we did the last 3/4 of a kilo to Piano lessons. With the boys safely at the studio it was time to bike in earnest. Piper and I took off down the bike path to Beacon Hill Shopping center and the wind was back in fine form........25km/h headwinds for about 3k. Oh yah another thing I noticed about my road bike..........super low gear is nowhere near as super low as my mountain bike......my poor quads, still it was much nicer to be riding somewhere other than the basement. So essentially I did about 42km today and 2 circuits of weight training.
What does that mean exactly well, lets see the ride looked like two laps of this
Some other interesting stats are (ok well interesting to me)
Avg HR was 129 bpm with a maximal of 202 (hill climb don't ask)
Total Kcal for the day of exercise was 2,175 (that is a good day)
Mileage 42.3km (why do we call it mileage if it is in kilometers???)
Avg Speed 17.6km/h
Max Speed 34.5 km/h (remember my daughter was in the bike trailer behind me)
On a separate note I am going to have to go back to Bow and have them re-adjust the rear derailer, it seems to jump around a bit on that 5 to 7 range and it was driving me batshit not a huge deal but fix it they will. Other than that the bike performed well, man that is a nice bike I haven't been on it in a little over two years, it made me think that the 200km might not be 5 hrs after all.
Other than that it was a pretty quiet day Piper and I kind of laid low today as the wind was absolutely howling outside, I wasn't kidding about the wind warning my little anemometer measured a 69.3 km/h gust and it is somewhat protected where it is, but the temperature has warmed up and it is 11 degrees out and 9:30 pm.............maybe the cold spell has snapped for a little while.
Was up a little extra early this morning. See I make it a rule to get the kids a hot breakfast as often as possible to send them off to school with a good nutritious warm meal in their bellies. Well Tammy has been burning it so hard of late that I figured she could use the same treatment so I got up with her at 5:30 this morning and made her a hot breakfast and joined her for breakfast. I must say that it was nice to be able to share a meal without the hooligans and I felt better sending her off somewhat well nourished for the day. Hopefully it carried her for a bit. I think it is something I am going to try to do a little more often (emphasis on little 5:30 am is freakin early)
In fact she has been working so hard that I had to give her a little more info on the surprise trip. She had it in her mind that we were going to take the trailer to Fairmont Hot Springs and I could see the enthusiasm wasn't quite full bore. So I gave in and told her. I am taking her to Brentwood Bay Spa and Resort in Victoria BC. It is a beautiful hotel/spa just outside of Victoria about a kilometer form Butchart Gardens (which is 50 acres of gardens that are apparently one of the largest gardens in Canada). It is situated right on Ocean and boasts some of great food and ambiance. Tammy and I are going to spend 3 kid free days and nights there next week.
Should be a great little bout of R&R to bring in 20 wonderful years of marriage..........and someones 40th Bday (I am not saying who but I am 42)
G'Night all.
